Operating from a 6000-square foot facility in Killarney amidst the lakes and mountains of Kerry, the company, established in 1980 by Tom and Betty Benson, is to the forefront of precision engineering in the country and specialises in cross drilling, slotting, broaching, thread cutting, thread rolling, thread generating, tapping, and single point turning of any profile.
Additionally, and uniquely in Ireland, Benson Engineering has state-of-the-art capability for diamond turning using single-crystal natural diamond tools achieving surface finishes in the range 0.4-2.0 micro inches R.a. This application is a feature for parts in pens, carburettors and gas appliances.
The company has a highly impressive range of precision machinery on site, which allows it to take an active part in the production of its customer’s products, from development stage (design, materials, tolerances and dimensions), through to automated mass production, including cost-reduction projects. Included in the array are cam types (calibrated to a variety of precision sizes), sliding head automatic lathes equipped with magazine bar feeds, a Wirth and Gruffat 6-station rotary transfer machine, and Tornos CNC sliding head models, the Tornos DECO 2000, CNC multi-axis) and a Hanwha ML 12, 12.5mm.
The company employs stringent quality systems to SPC and ISO 9001 standards and is approved ship to stock to many multi-national customers in Ireland.
